Powerline Communication Workshop

The workshop is organized Graz University of Technology (Inst. for Electrical Measurement, EMT) and Vienna University of Technology (Inst. of Sensor and Actuator Systems, ISAS) and supported by the IEEE Section Austria and the IEEE I&M section Austrian chapter. Main topic is the new powerline communication standard IEEE 1901.2 in comparison with standards developed by several companies (e.g. in the framework of the International Telecommunication Union/ITU).
New demands on the PLC implementations originating from the European commission treating the acquired measurements as personal data that has to be protected. This generates further demands that affect not only PLC but also all types of communication media. The workshop also discusses how far required changes are included in the current PLC standards, and addresses possible future implementations of "smart metering" and "smart grid" technologies.
