Dear IEEE IMS Members,
It has been a long and dense year since we all restarted to a "new normal," aiming to regain what has been considered the default and all at once became a privilege.
Person-to-person interaction had become impossible, and we were able to grow as we searched for other manners to work together and interact to exchange experiences. Fortunately, 2022 has seen things timidly coming back to normal and people starting again to travel, to meet at conferences and workshops, to present papers, to answer questions, to show demos, and therefore to grow all together. Even in the presence of the low complexity solution of the teleconference, I hope we will rejuvenate in-person conferences and meetings, especially for our younger colleagues.
In these years, our Instrumentation and Measurement Society has worked hard to provide our members with the best possible and highest quality services. We re-invented the way to do things, and I have to admit, in many cases, with great success. We learned a lot and transferred this knowledge to our members through the services offered.
We are now ready to come back and involve you all. We restarted in-person conferences. Our flagship I2MTC took place in person last May in Ottawa, Canada, and was a great success, with many people present and willing to listen until the very final words at the closing ceremony. Next year we will go to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and we look forward to another great event there.
Our journals are growing faster than any most optimistic prevision both in the number of pages and overall quality. This is by far the most concrete sign of appreciation for what we are doing for our Society.
After three years as President, I am happy to pass the lead to Dr. Juan Manuel Ramirez Cortés, who will be our President for the coming two years. With the Society in excellent shape, I know that under his wise presidency, the Instrumentation and Measurement Society will grow further to serve our valued members.
On a more personal basis, it has been a true honor to serve you all as IMS President over these years. I believe this is one of the goals of each one of our younger members, as it was mine some years ago when I joined the Society; I would like, therefore, to invite all that are willing to give their time and efforts to the Society to be proactive and propose themselves and their ideas to the member of the AdCom and the Editors. We will be happy to talk and discuss with each of you how you can be involved in the Society activities or initiatives for the benefit of all our members.
I wish you a successful new year, and I look forward to meeting you at our conferences and workshops.
Ciao
