Description

To recognize the best paper published in the IEEE Open Journal of Instrumentation and Measurement (OJIM). The purposes of this award are: to emphasize the importance or good authorship and timeliness of subject matter, and to stimulate interest in the OJIM.

Prize

$1,000 for one author, or $2,000 shared among multiple authors, divided equally among them; and a Plaque. An additional $1,000 travel allowance to be granted on a need basis by the Awards Chair on request of recipient. The honorarium and travel expenses are shared pro rata if there are multiple recipients and attendees

Funded by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society (IMS).

Presented at the I²MTC Awards Luncheon in the following year.

Historical Background

Ms. Cam Ingelin, was intimately involved with all matters related to IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement (TIM) for many years, prior to the establishment of the IEEE Open Journal of Instrumentation and Measurement (OJIM) in 2022. She worked with several Editors-in-Chief (EICs) starting with when papers were handled by regular postal mail (including international mail), then e-mail, and then AllenTrack submission system. Her impactful and comprehensive contributions and tireless dedication to the well-being of IEEE TIM to-date remain immeasurable.

Basis for Judging

Timeliness of subject matter and the importance of good authorship are emphasized. with the following selection criteria: Communication of paper's subject matter to non-experts; Organization and logical structure; Balance detail versus brevity; Writing style, language usage, etc.; Utilization of illustrative materials, tables and figures; Bibliography adequate references to the key work in the subject field; Timeliness of the paper's subject matter; Potential impact on the subject area; Degree of originality; Relative importance of the subject area in the total field of instrumentation and measurement.

Eligibility

The Best Paper Award will be selected from the pool of candidate papers published in the IEEE Open Journal of Instrumentation and Measurement (OJIM) in year (n) for selection to be made in year (n+1). Subsequently, the award will be presented at the annual IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Awards Luncheon in the following year (n+2). For example, the 2026 Best Paper Award will be from the pool of papers published in 2025 and the award will be presented in 2027.
