IMS Student Ambassador Program
Vision
Create a dynamic global network of IMS student member leaders who amplify IEEE’s IMS mission through creativity, technology, and real-world impact. This brings IMS closer to students in order to improve engagement.
Term of service- IMS Student ambassadors can serve for a maximum of 2 years, renewable after 1 year of service. To be considered for a 2nd year of service, student ambassadors must have demonstrated impact on society during their 1st year of service.
Roles & Responsibilities of IMS Student ambassador
- Collaborate with local IMS sections/chapters to organize 2 or more IMS-themed events each semester (tech talks, hackathons, innovation challenges, or outreach)
- Promote IEEE IMS membership, scholarships, and society activities.
- Share and promote IEEE IMS content across social media and university networks
- Submit one impact story or campus report per term to the VP of membership (can be in any format: comic, video, writeup, etc)
- Ambassadors can be asked to submit a short video to promote IMS
- Attend ambassador training sessions
- Ability to represent IEEE IMS at student events, webinars, and conferences.

IEEE IMS Student Ambassador - Selection Criteria
- IEEE IMS Membership
- Must be a current IEEE IMS Student member (undergraduate or graduate).
- Active membership throughout the program period is required.
- Academic Standing
- Must be a currently enrolled student (undergraduate or graduate).
- Should demonstrate strong academic performance — typically in engineering, technology, or related STEM fields.
- A faculty endorsement or chapter advisor reference is required.
- Leadership & Involvement
- Prior involvement in IEEE student branch or society activities (organizing events, volunteering, or technical competitions)
- Proven ability to lead peers, manage small projects, or promote initiatives.
- Experience with campus clubs, outreach, or mentoring is a strong plus.
- Communication & Outreach Skills
- Strong interpersonal, written, and presentation skills to promote IEEE IMS activities effectively.
- Active and professional presence on social media or campus networks.
- Technical Curiosity & Passion
- Genuine interest in IMS technical fields (e.g., Nondestructive Evaluation and Industrial Inspection, Impedance Spectroscopy, Medical and Biological Measurements, etc.).
- Initiative & Reliability
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to organize events, promote IEEE IMS programs, and submit activity reports per semester.
Selection Process
Online Application – Resume and a 2-page motivation statement that address selection criteria, letter of endorsement from a chapter advisor or faculty.
- Screening and selection – Review by the IMS Membership sub-Committee on collaboration and engagement
- Sign and submit the required declaration affirming the accuracy of all provided information and agreement to the stated terms and responsibilities.
- Notice – Email of selection by IMS VP of Membership and announcement on IMS social media channels and newsletters
