Shen Yin is the DNV Endowed Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He received his MSc and Dr.-Ing. degrees from the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. His research focuses on the fundamental principles and methodological development underlying fault diagnosis, prognosis, and fault-tolerant mechanisms in complex systems. He has also worked extensively on machine learning and data-driven modelling, with emphasis on the theoretical aspects that support inference, reliability analysis, and decision-making under uncertainty. He has contributed to the foundations of assurance frameworks for artificial intelligence and digital-twin-based systems in safety-critical contexts. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences (NTVA).
