Biography

Salvatore Baglio received the “Laurea” and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Catania, Italy, in 1990 and 1994, respectively.

Since 1996 he is with the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica Elettronica e Informatica, University of Catania, where he is currently Full Professor of Instrumentation and Measurement.

Prof. Baglio teaches courses in “measurement theory,” “electronic instrumentations,” and “Micro and nanosensors”.

His research interests are mainly focused on micro and nanotechnologies for sensors and transducers, micro and nanosensors, hysteretic materials for sensors, nonlinear dynamics for transducers, methodologies and integrated devices for energy harvesting.

He has coauthored more than 400 scientific publications including papers in international journals and in proceedings of international conferences, books, chapters in books. He is also co-inventor in international patents.

Prof. Baglio is IEEE Fellow, has served as Associate Editor for the IEEE Transaction on Circuits and Systems and for the IEEE Transaction on Instrumentation and Measurements, he has also been Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society.

Prof. Baglio is currently Associate Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transaction on Instrumentation and Measurements. He has been the General co-Chair of IEEE I2MTC 2018 and of IEEE SAS 2016 (SAS Steering Committee (2014-2017)).

Salvo Baglio is an I&M Society AdCom member (2015-2018) where he has served as Video Tutorials EIC (2015-2018), Faculty Course Development Award Selection Committee Member (2015-2016), Vice President Education (2016-2017), Society representative on IEEE Sensor Council AdCom (2017-2019, and the I&M Society AdCom Executive Vice President (2018-2019).

He is currently the Society President (2020-2021).

Zheng Liu

Biography

Zheng Liu received two Doctorates from Kyoto University (Japan) and the University of Ottawa (Canada) in 2000 and 2007, respectively. From 2000 to 2001, he was a Research Fellow at the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). Dr. Liu then joined the National Research Council of Canada (Ottawa, Ontario) in 2001 and worked for the Aerospace and Construction institutes as a research officer. From 2012 to 2015, Dr. Liu worked as a Full Professor with Toyota Technological Institute (Japan). He is now with the University of British Columbia. His research interests include digital twin, data/information fusion, computer/machine vision, machine learning, smart sensor and industrial IoT, and non-destructive inspection and evaluation. Dr. Liu is a fellow of SPIE and a senior member of IEEE. He holds a Professional Engineer license in both British Columbia and Ontario. Dr. Liu serves on the editorial boards for several prestigious journals.

Biography

Dario Petri received the M.Sc. degree (summa cum laude) and the Ph.D. degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy, in 1986 and 1990, respectively. From 1990 to 1992 he was an assistant professor at the Department of “Electronics and Information Engineering” of the same University. In 1992 he joined the University of Perugia, Italy, as an associate professor. He was elevated to full professorship of Measurement and Electronic Instrumentationin 1999. In 2002 he joined the Department of “Information Engineering and Computer Science” at the University of Trento, Italy, where he was the chair of the International Ph.D. School in “Information and Communication Technology” from 2004 to 2007 and the chair of Information Engineering study programs from 2007 to 2010. He has been the head of Department in Industrial Engineering of the same University from 2015 to 2021.

He has chaired the Italy Chapter of the IEEE I&M Society from 2006 to 2010. Currently he is the Vice Chair of the IEEE Italy Section. Also, he has been a Co-founder and General Chair of the Ph.D Schol “International Measurement University” (IMU) of the IEEE I&M Society from 2008.

Dr. Petri is an author of over three hundred papers published in international journals or in proceedings of peer reviewed international conferences.

Dario Petri is a Fellow member of the IEEE.

Biography

Juan Manuel Ramirez Cortés was born in Puebla, Mexico. He received the B.Sc. degree from the National Politechnique Institute, Mexico, the M.Sc. degree from the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics (INAOE), and the Ph.D. degree from Texas Tech University, all in electrical engineering. Since 2007 he is at the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics, Mexico, with a current appointment as titular researcher “C”. He has served at INAOE in administrative positions as Academic Representative, Coordinator of the Electronics Department (2015-2016), and Research Director (2016-2017). He is currently member of the National Research System (SNI), level 2. From 1992 to 2007 he was with Universidad de las Americas-Puebla, Mexico, in several academic and administrative positions: faculty member, Graduate advisor, Chair of the Electrical Engineering Department, Dean of the Engineering School, and University Academic Secretary. From 2002 to 2004 he was president of the National Association of Engineering Schools (ANFEI-MEXICO), and president of the Iberoamerican Association of Academic Engineering Institutions (ASIBEI). In 2006 he received an honorary appointment from Texas Tech University as Academy Member of the Electrical and Computing Engineering Department. He is a senior member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering), past president of IEEE Puebla Section, and founder Chair of the IEEE I&MS Puebla Chapter. In the last years he has been member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society Administrative Committee in several positions: past Finance Vice-President, past Treasurer and current Executive Vice-President. His scientific production to date consists of 56 refereed papers in scientific journals, 10 book chapters, and 150 papers in-extenso in proceedings of international conferences. He has been reviewer in several conferences and research journals, and project evaluator as RCEA member for CONACYT, Mexico. His research areas include signal and image processing, pattern recognition, neural networks, computer vision, instrumentation and sensors.
