Salvatore Baglio

Biography

Salvatore Baglio received the “Laurea” and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Catania, Italy, in 1990 and 1994, respectively.

Since 1996 he is with the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica Elettronica e Informatica, University of Catania, where he is currently Full Professor of Instrumentation and Measurement.

Prof. Baglio teaches courses in “measurement theory,” “electronic instrumentations,” and “Micro and nanosensors”.

His research interests are mainly focused on micro and nanotechnologies for sensors and transducers, micro and nanosensors, hysteretic materials for sensors, nonlinear dynamics for transducers, methodologies and integrated devices for energy harvesting.

He has coauthored more than 400 scientific publications including papers in international journals and in proceedings of international conferences, books, chapters in books. He is also co-inventor in international patents.

Prof. Baglio is IEEE Fellow, has served as Associate Editor for the IEEE Transaction on Circuits and Systems and for the IEEE Transaction on Instrumentation and Measurements, he has also been Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society.

Prof. Baglio is currently Associate Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transaction on Instrumentation and Measurements. He has been the General co-Chair of IEEE I2MTC 2018 and of IEEE SAS 2016 (SAS Steering Committee (2014-2017)).

Salvo Baglio is an I&M Society AdCom member (2015-2018) where he has served as Video Tutorials EIC (2015-2018), Faculty Course Development Award Selection Committee Member (2015-2016), Vice President Education (2016-2017), Society representative on IEEE Sensor Council AdCom (2017-2019, and the I&M Society AdCom Executive Vice President (2018-2019).

He is currently the Society President (2020-2021).

Biography

Amitava Chatterjee received the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Master of Electrical Engineering., and Ph.D. (Engineering) degrees from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, in 1991, 1994 and 2002, respectively. He joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University in 1997 where he is currently serving as a Professor. He is a recipient of the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship in 2003 and a recipient of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Post-Doctoral Fellowship in 2004. In 2004 and in 2009 he visited University of Paris XII, Val de Marne, France and in 2017 he visited Université Paris-Est, France as an Invited Teacher. Dr. Chatterjee's key research interests include intelligent instrumentation, systems and control, signal processing, image processing and robotics.

Dr. Chatterjee has authored/coauthored more than 140 papers published in international journals or in proceedings of peer reviewed international conferences. He has co-authored two books and co-edited two books. He presently serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement and IEEE Sensors Journal and Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence Journal (Elsevier).

Dr. Chatterjee is a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the IETE (India), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), and a Senior Member of the IEEE (USA).

Biography

Dr. Serge Demidenko Ph.D. (M’91- SM’94- F’04) is currently a Professor in Electronics, Information, and Communication Systems at the School of Food and Advanced Technology, Massey University, New Zealand.

Professor Demidenko received an ME (Computer Engineering) from the Belarusian State University of Informatics & Radio Electronics in 1977 and Ph.D. (Engineering Cybernetics & Information Theory) from the Institute of Engineering Cybernetics, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in 1984. He holds also two post-doctoral academic degrees – Senior Scientist (Control Engineering) and Docent (Informatics, Control, and Computer Engineering) awarded by the State Higher Attestation Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and the Republic of Belarus respectively, as well as a Certificate in Teaching (Higher Education) from Singapore Polytechnic in conjunction with Sheffield University, UK.

His professional career encompasses industry and academia in the Asia Pacific region and Europe (Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, New Zealand, UK, Italy, Belarus). While with the industry, he progressed from Junior Electronics Design Engineer to a Head of the Joint (Industry-Academy) Test Lab of a large computer systems manufacturing company. Since the mid-90s, he has held several senior academic positions including Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University; Head of the School of Engineering and Advanced Technology, Massey University; Head of the School of Engineering, Monash University; Head of the Centre (School) of Technology, and Head of the Centre (School) of Communication & Design (concurrent appointments) as well as Vice-President Academic, RMIT International University; Associate Head of the Institute of Information Sciences and Technology, Massey University, and others.

The areas of his research specialization include Signal Processing, Instrumentation and Measurement, Electronics Design and Testing, and Computer Systems. He is the author of 4 books, over 200 papers, and 25 engineering patents. He has been the recipient of several national, regional and university awards for excellence in research and teaching.

In addition to being a Fellow of IEEE, Professor Demidenko is the IEEE Computer Society (CS) Golden Core Member, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association, and a Member of the European Academy of Science and Arts (Academia Scientiarum et Artium Europaea). He is also UK Chartered Engineer.

Professor Demidenko has been active in the field of technical publications. He is an associate editor of six international peer-reviewed journals and has been a reviewer for numerous journals and conferences. He also devotes his time and energy to professional societies, committees, registration and accreditation bodies while holding various roles in IEEE and IET. He has also contributed to the organization of numerous international conferences and symposia.

Alessandro Ferrero (M’88–SM’96–F’99) was born in Milan, Italy, in 1954. He received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 1978. In 1983, he joined the Dipartimento di Elettrotecnica, Politecnico di Milano, as an Assistant Professor of electrical measurements. From 1987 to 1991, he was with the University of Catania, Italy, as an Associate Professor of measurements on electrical machines and systems. From 1991 to 1994, he was with the Dipartimento di Elettrotecnica, Politecnico di Milano, as an Associate Professor of electrical measurements, where he has been a Full Professor since 1994.

His current research interests include uncertainty evaluation, the application of digital methods to electrical measurements and measurements on electric power systems under nonsinusoidal conditions.

Prof. Ferrero has chaired the Italian Association for Electrical and Electronic Measurements for the three-year term 2004–2007 and he has been the President of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurements Society for the 2008 – 2009 term. He is the recipient of the 2006 Joseph F. Keithley IEEE Field Award for Instrumentation and Measurement.
As an AE for the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement he covers the areas of Digital Signal Processing and Measurement on Power Systems. Biography

Edoardo Fiorucci received the "laurea" degree cum laude in Electrical Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Information Engineering from the University of L’Aquila (Italy), in 2000 and 2004 respectively. His dissertation thesis focused on the New Techniques and Digital Instrumentation for the Power Quality Evaluation.

Since 2006 he is a Researcher in Measurements and Instrumentation in the Department of Industrial and Information Engineering and Economics and an Aggregate Professor of Testing of Electrical Machines and Power Systems in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of L'Aquila.

Edoardo Fiorucci is the author of more than 100 scientific publications, in international and Italian journals, transactions, books and conferences concerning the following research areas: 1) pc-based instrumentation; 2) measurement systems for power quality evaluation; 3) measurement systems for automatic testing of electrical machines; 4) smart web sensors for distributed measurement applications; 5) medical instrumentation.

Since 2003 he is a Member of IEEE IMS Instrumentation and Measurement Society.

He serves as a reviewer for: IEEE IMS Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, IEEE IES Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE PES Transactions on Energy Conversion, IMEKO Measurement Journal, IOP Metrologia, and IOP Measurement Science and Technology.

In 2006, he won the "Carlo Offelli" Award of the Italian Association GMEE for his PhD thesis.

He received three times the recognition as one of IMS Transactions "Outstanding Reviewers", for the years 2008, 2009 and 2011.

In 2011 he has been elevated to IEEE Senior Member grade.

Since January 2012 Edoardo Fiorucci serves as an "Associate Editor" for the IEEE IMS Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement.

Dr. Nan Li received his B.Eng 2004 from Xidian University, MSc 2008 from University of Manchester and Ph.D 2010 from Xidian University. He joined the Non-destructive Testing & Evaluation Institute in Beijing University of Technology since 2010, from where he moved to the School of Automation at Northwestern Polytechnical University in July 2016 as an Associate Professor. He was a deputy director at College of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Electronics Technology of Beijing University of Technology from September 2014 to June 2016. He is a deputy director of the Department of Detection Technology and Automation since 2019. He is the leader of Advanced Intelligent Measurement, Control and Navigation Technology Research Center (AIMCNT), School of Automation, Northwestern Polytechnical University, China. He is director of Institute of Instrumentation (Shaanxi Chapter, China), director of Inertial Technology Society (Shaanxi Chapter, China), and fellow of Electromagnetic Metrology Technical Committee (Shaanxi Chapter, China). His interests are non-destructive testing and evaluation, sensor optimization design, electrical capacitance tomography, control theory and engineering, etc. As the person in charge, he undertook 3 NFSC (National Natural Science Foundation of China) projects, and participate over 3 Key projects of NFSC since 2012. He serves as the reviewer for more than 20 international journals (including IEEE TIE, IEEE TIM, IEEE TII, etc.). He was selected as an IEEE TIM outstanding reviewer in 2020 and 2021 by IEEE IMS. He was SPS1 organizer of 2021 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC). He was SI Leader Guest Editor of Journal of sensors. Gianfranco Miele received the M.S. degree (cum laude) in telecommunication engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and information engineering from the University of Cassino, Cassino, Italy, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. Since 2019 he is an Associate Professor with the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Cassino.

He has authored or co-authored about 80 journal and conference papers in instrumentation and measurements. His current research interests include electrical and electronic measurements, and, in particular, design and implementation of innovative methods for performance assessment of RF telecommunication systems and communication networks, RF spectrum measurement and sensing, image-based measurement systems, measurement of electromagnetic compatibility, and DSP-based measurement systems.

He was a recipient of the Carlo Offelli Prize for the best Ph.D. dissertation in electronic measurement entitled “Design and implementation of an apparatus for reliable and repeatable
power measurement in DVB-T systems” in 2008. Prof. Miele is a member of the Italian Association Electrical and Electronic Measurements Group, the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society, and the IEEE 802.22 Working Group.
He is currently the scientific head of the electrical division of the Industrial Measurement Laboratory of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio.

Dr. Subhas Chandra Mukhopadhyay (M’97, SM’02, F’11) graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India with a Gold medal and received the Master of Electrical Engineering degree from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He has PhD (Eng.) degree from Jadavpur University, India and Doctor of Engineering degree from Kanazawa University, Japan.

Currently, he is working as a Professor of Mechanical/Electronics Engineering with the Department of Engineering, Macquarie University, New South Wales, Australia. He is the Programme Leader of the Mechatronics Engineering Degree Programme. He has over 26 years of teaching and research experiences.

His fields of interest include Smart Sensors and Sensing Technology, Wireless Sensor Networks, Instrumentation and Measurements, Internet of Things, Environmental Measurements, Electromagnetics, Control Engineering, Mechatronics, Magnetic Bearing, Fault Current Limiter, Electrical Machines and numerical field calculation etc.

He has authored/co-authored over 400 papers in different international journals, conferences and book chapter. He has edited fifteen conference proceedings. He has also edited seventeen special issues of international journals as lead guest editor and thirty books with Springer-Verlag.

He was awarded numerous awards throughout his career and attracted over US$3.0 M on different research projects.

He has delivered 296 seminars including keynote, tutorial, invited and special seminars.

He is a Fellow of IEEE (USA), a Fellow of IET (UK) and a Fellow of IETE (India). He is a Topical Editor of IEEE Sensors Journal, and an Associate Editor IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurements. He is in the editorial board of e-Journal on Non-Destructive Testing, Sensors and Transducers, Transactions on Systems, Signals and Devices (TSSD). He is the co-Editor-in-chief of the International Journal on Smart Sensing and Intelligent Systems. He was the Technical Programme Chair of ICARA 2004, ICARA 2006 and ICARA 2009. He was the General chair/co-chair of ICST 2005, ICST 2007, IEEE ROSE 2007, IEEE EPSA 2008, ICST 2008, IEEE Sensors 2008, ICST 2010, IEEE Sensors 2010, ICST 2011, ICST 2012, ICST 2013, ICST 2014, ICST 2015 and ICST 2016. Samir Trabelsi received his Licence de Physique and Maîtrise de Physique from l'Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France, in 1985 and 1987, respectively, and his Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies and Ph. D. in Electronics from the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse in 1988 and 1993, respectively. Dr. Trabelsi is a Research Electronics Engineer and Lead scientist of the Dielectrics Group, Quality and Safety Assessment Research Unit, ARS, USDA, in Athens, Georgia, and holds an adjunct Associate Research Scientist position with the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, The University of Georgia. His research involves development of methods and sensors for rapid and nondestructive determination of bulk density and moisture content in granular and particulate materials and measurement and modeling of dielectric properties of water-containing materials at RF and microwave frequencies. His expertise is in dielectric measurements, microwave and millimeter nondestructive testing, moisture content measurements and high-frequency measurements. He has published more than 195 technical papers and reports on these subjects and holds three patents. Dr. Trabelsi is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, and for several years has served on the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE I2MTC and IEEE-APS International Conferences. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member and a chartered physicist of the Institute of Physics (IOP). He is a member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, and a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.
