IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Undergraduate Scholarship

To support and encourage undergraduate-level work in the area of Instrumentation and Measurement.

Up to five students will receive the award, consisting of a certificate, complimentary Instrumentation and Measurement (I&M) Student Membership for a calendar year, a feature in the IEEE IMS magazine, a social media shoutout on the I&M Society accounts, and $2000 USD. The total annual budget does not exceed $10,000 USD.

Funded by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society.
Presentation:
Presented annually at the discretion of the I&M Society Awards Committee at the following year’s I2MTC awards ceremony.
Basis for Judging:
The evaluation committee will review and evaluate in detail based on the following terms:
(1) Participation and volunteerism in IEEE Student Branch, IEEE-HKN
Chapter, or IMS Student Chapter Activities
(2) Academic Achievement
(3) Extracurricular activities
(4) Letter/s of recommendation
(5) Personal statement
Eligibility:
Candidate must be:
(1) Undergraduate students pursuing a degree in an IEEE field of interest.
(2) Must have at least 1 year remaining in their undergraduate degree or be accepted into or enrolled in a graduate program to immediately start further study upon completion of their undergraduate degree.
(3) Must be an active student member of IEEE or the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society prior to application for this award.
(4) Candidate must exhibit actions that reflect positively on and enhance the reputation of the I&M Society.
(5) Eligibility and Selection process shall comply with procedures and regulation established in IEEE and Instrumentation and Measurement Society governing documents, particularly with IEEE Policy 4.4 on Awards Limitations.
(6) Previous award winners are not eligible for substantially the same achievements (per IEEE Policies 4.4: An individual shall receive only one award for a given achievement, unless the significance merits a higher award, which may be given in the following year or thereafter.)

Nominations are solicited from all IMS Members. The call for nominations will be sent out via email to the IMS Membership, posted on the IMS social media accounts, and displayed on the IMS website. Nominations must be submitted through the IMS website by the candidate. Nominations must include the nominee’s CV, academic transcript (issued by the official organization for issuing academic records at nominee’s institution), a candidate statement from the nominee describing their career ambitions and the role instrumentation and measurement will play in these ambitions, and at least one but no more than three letters of support. Letters of support may not be from other students. Nominations should comply with IEEE Policies and restrictions on awards. Incidents of misconduct including, but not limited to, violations of IEEE's publication policies, will be strongly considered by the awards committee and may be grounds for denial of an award or leadership position.

  • One-page biographical summary of the candidate. Include the student’s IEEE membership number.
  • Academic transcript (issued by the official organization for issuing academic records at nominee’s institution). Include an explanation if the grading system differs from the A to F format.
  • One page (single-spaced) statement, written by the candidate, describing their career ambitions and the role instrumentation and measurement will play in these ambitions.
  • At least one but no more than three letters of support.
