Biography

Sabrina Grassini received her M.S. degree in Chemistry from University of Torino in 1999, and the Ph.D. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2004. She is Full Professor of Applied Physical Chemistry with the Department of Applied Science and Technology at Politecnico di Torino. Her research activities, which led to the publication of more than 220 papers in national and international journals and in the proceedings of international conferences, are devoted to fundamentals of plasma processes, cultural heritage, corrosion and protection of metals, sensors and medical measurements. She is senior member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society, member of the Steering Committee of the IEEE International Symposium on Medical Measurement and Applications (MeMeA), Secretary of TC-25 on Medical and Biomedical Measurements and Chair of TC-17 on Materials in Measurements. She is Associate Editor of the IEEE Transaction of Instrumentation and Measurement. She served as General Chair of the International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference in 2017 (I2MTC2017), and of the MeMeA Symposia in 2005, 2020 and 2022.

Dr. Octavian Adrian Postolache is an electrical engineer and Associate Professor with habilitation at ISCTE-Instituto Universitario de Lisboa and a Senior researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicacoes, Lisbon, Portugal. His fields of interest are smart sensors, WSN, IoT for precision agriculture, artificial intelligence for automated measurement systems, and intelligent transportation. Dr. Postolache is the author and co-author of 10 patents, 12 books, 21 book chapters, and more than 400 papers in international journals and indexed conferences with peer review. He developed important research work in the field of environmental monitoring and he participate as a PI or member in national and international Agriculture 4.0 projects such as AGROECOINN and SmartFarm 4.0 Colab. He is an IEEE Senior Member, chair of IEEE IMS TC-13, and current chair of the IEEE IMS Portugal Chapter. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Sensors Journal, IEEE Transaction on Instrumentation and Measurement, and IoT from Elsevier. He received IEEE outstanding reviewer and the outstanding associate editor from IEEE Transactions in Instrumentation and Measurement and IEEE Sensors Journal and other awards related to his research activity at different international forums.

Lee Barford is Master Scientist at Keysight Laboratories, the research arm of Keysight Technologies. His responsibilities include leading research to identify and apply emerging technologies in software, applied mathematics, and statistics to increasing the accuracy and speed of new and existing instruments for electronic, chemical, and biological measurements. Previously, he managed a number of research projects at Agilent Laboratories and Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, for example in visible light and X-ray imaging systems, calibration methods for non-linear and dynamical disturbances, and fault isolation from automatic test equipment results. His work has been used to improve R&D productivity and reduce manufacturing cost in leading companies in the computer, telecommunications, networking, aerospace, and transportation industries. He is the author or co-author of over 40 peer reviewed, international publications and inventor or co-inventor of approximately 60 patents in the US and other countries. During his time at Agilent and Hewlett-Packard, Lee has given invited talks at universities, national laboratories, and research institutes worldwide.

Lee's service on boards includes eight years as president of a charity that provides reduced-cost housing for hundreds of low-income seniors and membership on the blue-ribbon commission for ending homelessness in Silicon Valley.

J. Max Cortner earned a BSEE from Iowa State University and an MSEE from the University of Minnesota. After eighteen years as a Test Engineer in defense division of Sperry Corporation, Max moved to the Cardiac Rhythm Management division of Guidant, now the CRM Division of Boston Scientific. Boston Scientific CRM manufactures medical electronics including pacemakers and defibrillators. Max is currently a Senior Fellow Engineer in Test Engineering, a group responsible for automated electronic testing of components, subassemblies and final product in manufacturing. He is a licensed Professional Engineer, a Certified Project Management Professional, and a Senior Member of IEEE. As an active member of the IEEE Twin Cities Section since 1972, Max has held offices in the Computer Society including local chapter chair and area chair. He worked with a group of activists who organized and successfully ran a five-year series of multi-week technical symposia covering hot topics such as computer graphics and artificial intelligence. Max was among the founders of the Twin Cities Chapter of the Instrument and Measurement Society. He helped organize numerous local test conferences and served as General Chair for the IMTC 1998. In 1999, he served on the committee of the IEEE Sections Congress that was held in the Twin Cities. Max was Co-Chair of I2MTC held in Minneapolis in 2013. He now serves on the Instrumentation and Measurement Society Administration Committee in the role of Education Committee Chair, I2MTC Board Chair, and Industrial Relations Subcommittee Chair.

Luca De Vito (M’10–SM’12) received the master’s (cum laude) degree in software engineering and the Ph.D. degree in information engineering from the University of Sannio, Benevento, Italy, in 2001 and 2005, respectively. His master’s thesis was on automatic classification and characterization of digitally modulated signals. He joined the Laboratory of Signal Processing and Measurement Information, University of Sannio, where he was involved in research activities. In 2008, he joined the Department of Engineering, University of Sannio, as an Assistant Professor in electric and electronic measurement. In 2013, he received the National Academic Qualification as an Associate Professor. Since 2015, he collaborates with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva, Switzerland, first as visiting scientist, and then as cooperation associate, working on magnet characterization, with the Magnetic Measurement Section (TE-MSC-MM), on diagnostics of cryogenic processes, with the Controls and Electrical Support Section (TE-CRG-CE), and on the characterization of RF cavities with the Hadron Synchrotrons Coherent effects Section (BE-ABP-HSC). Since June 2016 he is associated to the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and collaborates to the ELI-NP (Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics) project.

He is Associate Editor of the ELSEVIER Measurement journal.

He is member of the IEEE since 2010, he is member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society (IMS), of the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic System Society, and of the IEEE Standards Association. He is Senior Member of the IEEE since 2012. He is Chapter Chair Liaison of the IEEE IMS.

He is member of the AFCEA and is Young President of the AFCEA Naples Charter.

He published more than 100 papers on international journals and conference proceedings, mainly dealing with measurements for the telecommunications, data converter testing and biomedical instrumentation.

Ruth Dyer earned her doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Kentucky, and her bachelor's and master's degrees in biochemistry are from Kansas State University. She joined K-State in 1983 as an assistant professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering and was promoted to full professor in 1997. From 1998 up to her recent retirement, Dr. Dyer served in various administrative roles in the Office of the Provost. In her final, role she served as the senior vice provost for academic affairs.

She has served in a number of leadership roles in the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society (IMS), including Sr. Past President (2020-2021); Awards Chair (2020-2021), Jr. Past President (2018-2019), Nominations & Appointments Chair (2018-2019), President (2016-2017), Vice President for Membership, Vice President for Publications, Vice President for Finance, and Executive Vice President. She is a Fellow of the IEEE, and in 2011 she received the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society's Distinguished Service Award. She served as the General Program Co-Chair for the 2010 I2MTC and as the Technical Program Co-Chair for the 2011 I2MTC. She also served for a number of years as a member of the I2MTC Board of Directors. She served three four-year terms — 1999-2002, 2003-2006, and 2008-2011— as an elected member of the IMS Administrative Committee.

Dr. Dyer also was one of seven individuals from across the United States to be named a Fellow of the Association of Women in Sciences in 2006. She was an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow in 2003-2004 and served during that time at Ohio State University. In 2013, she was selected for induction into the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Engineering Hall of Distinction, and she currently serves on the UK Engineering Dean’s Advisory Council.

Ferdinanda Ponci graduated with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (Italy), in 2002. She joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of South Carolina, (USA), as an Assistant Professor in 2003, and became Associate Professor in 2008. In 2009, she joined the Institute for Automation of Complex Power Systems, E.ON Research Center, RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany, where she is currently a Professor for “Monitoring and distributed control for power systems”.

She is currently engaged in research projects on advanced monitoring and low-cost instruments for medium and low voltage active distribution systems. She has published 60+ journal paper, of which 28 on TIM and 130+ conference papers.

She is a Senior Member of the IEEE. She has been a member of the Administration Committee of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society (IMS) for two terms between 2010 and 2017. She has served the IMS as Vice-President for Education, as Liaison with IEEE Women in Engineering, as Chair of the Distinguished Lecturer Program, Distinguished Lecturer (May, 2014 thru 12/31/2017), as Conference Treasurer, and as Chair of the Graduate Fellowship Award Committee. She has been elected to the IMS Administration Committee for the term 2019-2022. She has served on Program Committees of IMS conferences, and as a reviewer for TIM and the I&M Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, on Power Delivery, on Smart Grid, and on Industrial Electronics.

Amir L. Rifi studied biomedical research at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and graduated magna cum laude in 2021. His master's thesis titled “Derivation of an adverse outcome pathway network for in vitro hepatotoxicity predictive testing” was performed in the In Vitro Toxicology and Dermato-Cosmetology (IVTD) department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

In that same year, he enrolled as a Ph.D. candidate in the research groups of Translational Radiation Oncology and Palliative care (TROP) , and Biostatistics and Medical Informatics (BISI) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mark De Ridder and Prof. Dr. Kurt Barbé, with focus on the clinical translation of radiomics to support personalized cancer therapy.
