The I&M Society Technical & Standards Committee (also known as TSAC) manages the technical committees' activities and assists the working groups of the Instrumentation & Measurement Society in developing standards according to the IEEE- SA policy.

Biography

Sergio Rapuano achieved the MS degree in Electronic Engineering with honors in 1999 and the PhD degree in Computer Science, Applied Electromagnetism and Telecommunications in 2003 from University of Salerno, Italy.

In 2002 he joined the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Sannio, where he currently is Associate Professor of Electric and Electronic Measurement at the Department of Engineering.

He is senior member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society and member of the IEEE Standards Association. In particular, within the Instrumentation and Measurement Society he is: Chapter Chair liaison, member of the “Waveform Generation, Measurement and Analysis” Technical Committee (TC-10), chairing the Subcommittee on “Jitter Measurement”; member of the Technical Committee on “Education for Instrumentation and Measurement” (TC-23); vice-chairman of the Subcommittee on Objective Blood Pressure Measurement formed within the Technical Committee on “Medical and Biological Measurements” (TC-25), secretary of the TC-25.

Since 2003 he participated in the organisation of several international scientific meetings in the field of Electronic Measurements: the IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technical Conferences, the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO) TC-4 Symposia, the IEEE International Workshops on Medical Measurements and Applications, the IMEKO International Workshops on Analog to Digital Converters Modelling and Testing, playing different roles: session chairman, member of the technical program committee, technical co-chairman, general co-chairman.

He published more than 150 papers in international journals and in national and international conference proceedings on the following subjects: ADC and DAC Modelling and Testing, Digital Signal Processing, Distributed Measurement Systems, Medical Measurement and has been guest editor of the following journals: IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, Measurement, Computer Standards and Interfaces and International Journal of Advanced Media and Communications.

He received from the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society the Outstanding Young Engineer Award 2007.

Biography

Bruno Andò is currently Associate Professor in Measurement Science at the Department of Electric, Electronic and Information Engineering (DIEEI) of the University of Catania, Italy.

He received the M.S. in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Catania, Italy, in 1994 and 1999 respectively. From 1999 he performs research in the fields of sensor and instrumentation at the DIEEI of the University of Catania.

RESEARCH ACTIVITY

Bruno Andò leads a group of researchers working in the following fields:

Smart Sensing Systems and Readout Electronics;
Assistive Technologies;
Nano and Micro Sensors, µ-fluidics, Bio-Sensors;
Inkjet Printed Sensors and Flexible Sensors;
Sensors exploiting innovative materials (ferrofluids, ferroelectrics and multiferroics);
Sensor Networks;
Smart signal processing and nonlinear techniques (including stochastic resonance and dithering) to improve performances of sensors and bio-receptors.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN SCIENTIFIC SOCIETIES

Since 1997 he is member of IEEE, and since 2013 he is a Senior Member of IEEE.
He is the Chair Elected of the IEEE SAS Advisory Board, 2017-2019.
He belongs to the following Technical Committee of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society: TC-18 “Environmental Measurements”, TC-37 “Measurement and Networking” and TC-13 “Wireless & Telecommunications in Measurements”.
He is a member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurements Faculty Course Development Award Committee for years 2016, 2017.
Since 2010 he is a member of the AitAAL (Italian Association on Ambient Assisted Living) and since 2004 he is a member of the Italian Group of Electric and Electronic Measurement “GMEE”, Italy.
Since 2015 he is the Chairman of the National Research Activity on “Sensors and Transducers for Measurement” of the Italian Measurement Group (GMEE).
He is delegated of the “Sicily (Italy) District on Micro&Nano Systems”, to the Italian Cluster on “Technology for Life Environments (TAV)”, as an expert in the field of "Technology for Assisted Living".
He belongs to the List of supporters of AALOA (AAL OPEN ASSOCIATION-www.aaloa.org/).
In 2011, 2013 he was with the Technical Program Committee of “EvAAL (Evaluating AAL Systems through Competitive Benchmarking)” competition organized by AALOpenAssociation on “Indoor Localization”, Valencia.

He is the scientific coordinator of several international and national research projects.
He has co-authored more than 8 patents and 200 scientific peer-review papers.

Kurt Barbé (S’05-M’09-SM’16) received the Master degree in Mathematics and the PhD degree in engineering from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Brussels, Belgium, in 2005 and 2009 respectively. Presently, he is a professor at the VUB at the faculty of Medicine. He is furthermore a co-founder of the research group Digital Mathematics (DIMA) holding a strong expertise in applied mathematics for engineering sciences and beyond. At VUB, he is the founder of the interfaculty centre for data-processing and statistics providing statistical and methodological support to the university community at large. Dr. Barbé is a former research fellow of the Flemish Research Foundation (FWO) and VUB-coordinator of FLAMES – the Flemish inter-university training network on research methodology and statistics. His current research interest is in the field of numerical methods and computational statistics applied to biomedicine.

Dr. Barbé has served as an Associate Editor since 2010 and Associate Editor in Chief in 2018-2019 for the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement. Since 2017 he has served as secretary of the royal Belgian statistical society. Finally, since 2019 he has joined the editorial board for the journal Fractal and Fractional as well as Sensors. He was a recipient of the Outstanding Young Engineer Award from the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society in 2011 and the Andi Chi Best Paper Award of the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement in 2013. Two PhD students received the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Graduate Fellowship award under his supervision in 2012 and 2017.

Sebastian Yuri Cavalcanti Catunda graduated in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Paraíba (1993), achieved M.Sc. degree from the Federal University of Paraíba (1996) and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Campina Grande (2000) and École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications - ENST, Paris. He was a professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) from 1998 to 2011. At UFMA, he chaired the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering from 2005 to 2011. In 2011 he joined the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), at Natal, where he is currently a full professor of the Department of Computer Engineering and Automation.

With the Brazilian Society of Automation (SBA), he founded the Instrumentation Committee in 2007 and was the society’s secretary of institutional relations from 2015 to 2016. He is Senior Member of IEEE since 2013. He founded in 2013 and presided until 2017, the Joint Chapter IEEE IMS / CASS of Bahia Section. He is a titular researcher, level 1D, in the Microelectronics area of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and member of its Advisory Board from 2012 to 2018. His research interests focus on instrumentation and microelectronics including the topics of sensors, analog and mixed circuits, embedded systems, and data acquisition systems, in which he has published more than 120 conferences and journals papers.

Luca De Vito (M’10–SM’12) received the master’s (cum laude) degree in software engineering and the Ph.D. degree in information engineering from the University of Sannio, Benevento, Italy, in 2001 and 2005, respectively. His master’s thesis was on automatic classification and characterization of digitally modulated signals. He joined the Laboratory of Signal Processing and Measurement Information, University of Sannio, where he was involved in research activities. In 2008, he joined the Department of Engineering, University of Sannio, as an Assistant Professor in electric and electronic measurement. In 2013, he received the National Academic Qualification as an Associate Professor. Since 2015, he collaborates with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva, Switzerland, first as visiting scientist, and then as cooperation associate, working on magnet characterization, with the Magnetic Measurement Section (TE-MSC-MM), on diagnostics of cryogenic processes, with the Controls and Electrical Support Section (TE-CRG-CE), and on the characterization of RF cavities with the Hadron Synchrotrons Coherent effects Section (BE-ABP-HSC). Since June 2016 he is associated to the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and collaborates to the ELI-NP (Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics) project.

He is Associate Editor of the ELSEVIER Measurement journal.

He is member of the IEEE since 2010, he is member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society (IMS), of the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic System Society, and of the IEEE Standards Association. He is Senior Member of the IEEE since 2012. He is Chapter Chair Liaison of the IEEE IMS.

He is member of the AFCEA and is Young President of the AFCEA Naples Charter.

He published more than 100 papers on international journals and conference proceedings, mainly dealing with measurements for the telecommunications, data converter testing and biomedical instrumentation.
