Sergio Rapuano

Biography

Sergio Rapuano is Full Professor of Electrical and Electronic Measurements (SSD ING-INF / 07) at the Engineering Department of the University of Sannio. Since 2002, the year he entered service at the University of Sannio, in his activity as researcher and coordinator of research activities he worked in the fields of digital signal processing for measurement, characterization of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, design of distributed measurement systems, design of measurement methods and systems for telecommunications, distance learning in the field of electrical and electronic measurements, biomedical measurements, publishing about 270 contributions including journal papers, conference papers, editorials, book chapters and IEEE Standards in collaboration with numerous Italian and foreign authors (228 papers indexed by Scopus). He has participated and coordinated research projects funded by participating in competitive calls at national and international level. Since 2002 he has continuously taught subjects on Electrical and Electronic Measurements within the Bachelor and Master Degree Courses of the Engineering Department. He used to be Chair of the Joint Program Committee of the Bachelor and Master Degree Courses in Electronic Engineering for Automation and Telecommunications from 2017 to 2019. He is currently member of the board of the PhD Course in Information Technologies for Engineering held at the Department of Engineering and Rector’s Delegate to Scientific Research.


He is member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Sociey (IMS), the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS), the IEEE Standards Association, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), the Italian Association of Electrotechnics, Electronics, Automation, Informatics and Telecommunications (AEIT) and the Italian Society of Electrical and Electronics Measurement (GMEE) and participates in the activities of the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO) TC4  'Measurement of Electrical Quantities '. In particular, within IMS he has been Vice President Membership and Vice President Education and is currently Vice President Technical and Standards Activities; he was elected member-at-large of the Administrative Committee for the four-year terms 2017- 2020 and 2021-2024; he is Chair of TC-25 'Medical and Biological Measurements' and Subcommittee Chair of TC-10 'Waveform Generation, Measurement and Analysis'. He participated in the development of four IEEE Standards and he led the development of the IEEE Standard 2414 on 'Jitter, Wander and Phase Noise'. He was several times Guest Editor of the journals 'Computer Standards and Interfaces', 'Measurement' and 'IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement'. He was several times Chair of the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technical Conference and the IEEE International Symposium on Medical Measurements and Applications, of which he was twice General Co-Chair. He was General Co-Chair of the IEEE Forum on Research Technology for Society and Industry 2021 and the IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference 2022. He was awarded the 2007 Outstanding Young Engineer Award by the IEEE IMS and the Distinguished Service Award by the IEEE Italy Section in 2020.
