Biography

Yong Yan is a Professor of Electronic Instrumentation and the Director of Innovation at the School of Engineering and Digital Arts, the University of Kent, Canterbury, U.K. He received the B.Eng. and M.Sc. in instrumentation and control from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 1985 and 1988, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in flow measurement and instrumentation from the University of Teesside, Middlesbrough, U.K., in 1992. His research interests include sensors, instrumentation, measurement and condition monitoring. He has published 470 papers in journals and conference proceedings in addition to 12 research monographs. His h-index is 47 with 8300+ citations. He was awarded the Achievement Medal by the IEE in 2003, the Engineering Innovation Prize by the IET (IEE) in 2006, and the Best Application Award by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society in 2017. In recognition of his contributions to pulverised fuel flow metering and burner flame imaging he was named an IEEE Fellow in 2011 and elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2020. He was a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society from 2012 to 2018.
