Isaac Fan

Biography

Isaac Fan received a B.Sc. in EE (2002) and a B.Sc. (2004) in Physics and a Ph.D. in Physics (2009), all from University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. His doctoral thesis was on the topic of muonium spin spectroscopy in semiconductors.

From 2009 to 2013, he was a postdoc in the Department of Physics, National TsingHua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan (ROC). During this time, his research mainly involved precision laser spectroscopy in atoms and molecules using frequency comb. From 2013 to 2019, he was a postdoc in the Spin Pression Group, Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, Berlin, Germany. His research during this time involved precision measurement of nuclear spin precession frequencies at ultralow magnetic fields. From 2019 to 2021, he was a postdoc in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Colorado in Boulder, USA. His research during this time involved the AC magnetic field measurement with atom-based quantum sensors for magnetic communication. Since 2021, he has been a Research Associate in the Department of Physics, University of Colorado in Boulder and an Associate in the Atomic Devices & Instrumentation Group, National Institute of Standards and Technology. His on-going research is to develop quantum sensors with absolute magnetic field traceability.

His general research interests lie in the precise and accurate determination of AC and DC magnetic fields for fundamental physics, telecommunication and navigation, and metrology.
