Biography

Fernando J. Álvarez (M'07 - SM'17) received the M.Sc. degree in physics from the University of Sevilla, Spain, in 1998, the Ph.D. degree in electronics from the University of Alcalá, Spain, in 2006, the M.Sc. degree in electronic engineering from the University of Extremadura, Spain, in 2012, and the M.Sc. degree in signal theory and communications from the University of Vigo, Spain, in 2014. Since 2001, he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation, University of Extremadura, where he is currently a Full Professor and the Head of the Sensory Systems Research Group. Fernando has led a total of 13 competitive research projects (2 European, 6 national, 1 regional and 4 corporate research projects), has published more than 50 articles in indexed international journals, has contributed with more than 150 communications to international conferences, and has supervised 6 PhD thesis. Much of this research has been carried out in the field of instrumentation and measurement, and he currently holds the position of vice-president of the Spanish IMS chapter.
