Emanuele Piuzzi

Biography

Emanuele Piuzzi is Associate Professor of Electrical and Electronic Measurements at the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications of Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.

He received the M.S. degree (cum laude) in Electronic Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome in 1997. In 2001 he received the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering, and the same year he was awarded a four-year research fellowship, both at Sapienza University of Rome. He was an Assistant Professor from 2006 to 2017, and Associate Professor since 2017. In 2020 he received the National Scientific Qualification to function as a Full Professor in “Measurements”.

He is a member of the Italian Electrotechnical Committee (CEI) Technical Committee 106 “Human exposure to electromagnetic fields” and of the WG01 “Mobile phones and base stations” of CENELEC TC-106X “Electromagnetic fields in the human environment”. He is a member of IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society.

His main research activities are related to measurements of the dielectric properties of materials, medical measurements and applications, and assessment of human exposure to electromagnetic fields. In particular, he has developed different measurement solutions for non-destructive and non-invasive monitoring of the health status of historical artifacts and construction materials and for dielectric spectroscopy measurements on different kinds of materials in a wide frequency range. As concerns medical applications, he is actively studying both wearable and contactless (radar-based) systems for long-term monitoring of vital signs and physiological parameters in patients.

Author and co-author of more than 150 indexed scientific papers, he is a reviewer for international journals such as IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, Measurement, IEEE Sensors Journal, Sensors, and for international conferences, including IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), IEEE International Symposium on Medical Measurements and Applications (MeMeA), and IEEE International Conference on Metrology for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (MetroArchaeo). He was an “Outstanding reviewer of 2019” of the Instrumentation and Measurement Society for the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement.

Currently, Dr. Piuzzi is Referent for Quality Assurance for the Council of Electronic Engineering, B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees, as well as Clinical Engineering, B.Sc. degree and Biomedical Engineering, M.Sc. degree, at Sapienza University of Rome.
