Biography

Lee Gonzales Fuentes was born in Arequipa, Perú. She received the Bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering with a major in Telecommunications from the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín (UNSA), Perú in 2008. Her M.Sc. degree in Electronics/Telecommunications from the University of Gävle (HIG), Sweden was received in 2012. In March 2012, Lee joined the department of Electricity and Instrumentation (ELEC) as a Ph.D. student in the domain of pre- and post-processing of measured data. Her main research interests are measurements and modeling techniques for high-frequency applications, wireless network design, telemetry and digital signal processing.

The estimation of the probability density of a measured physical variable is a very common functionality in both measurement instruments and virtual measurement systems. The relevance of this project attracted the attention of Agilent Technologies (currently Keysight Technologies) which resulted in a scientific collaboration. Several discussions regarding the different techniques and their implementation allowed the research team to apply them to different measurement problems that an engineer usually encounters.

Biography

Dr. Subhas Chandra Mukhopadhyay (M’97, SM’02, F’11) graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India with a Gold medal and received the Master of Electrical Engineering degree from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He has PhD (Eng.) degree from Jadavpur University, India and Doctor of Engineering degree from Kanazawa University, Japan.

Currently, he is working as a Professor of Mechanical/Electronics Engineering with the Department of Engineering, Macquarie University, New South Wales, Australia. He is the Programme Leader of the Mechatronics Engineering Degree Programme. He has over 26 years of teaching and research experiences.

His fields of interest include Smart Sensors and Sensing Technology, Wireless Sensor Networks, Instrumentation and Measurements, Internet of Things, Environmental Measurements, Electromagnetics, Control Engineering, Mechatronics, Magnetic Bearing, Fault Current Limiter, Electrical Machines and numerical field calculation etc.

He has authored/co-authored over 400 papers in different international journals, conferences and book chapter. He has edited fifteen conference proceedings. He has also edited seventeen special issues of international journals as lead guest editor and thirty books with Springer-Verlag.

He was awarded numerous awards throughout his career and attracted over US$3.0 M on different research projects.

He has delivered 296 seminars including keynote, tutorial, invited and special seminars.

He is a Fellow of IEEE (USA), a Fellow of IET (UK) and a Fellow of IETE (India). He is a Topical Editor of IEEE Sensors Journal, and an Associate Editor IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurements. He is in the editorial board of e-Journal on Non-Destructive Testing, Sensors and Transducers, Transactions on Systems, Signals and Devices (TSSD). He is the co-Editor-in-chief of the International Journal on Smart Sensing and Intelligent Systems. He was the Technical Programme Chair of ICARA 2004, ICARA 2006 and ICARA 2009. He was the General chair/co-chair of ICST 2005, ICST 2007, IEEE ROSE 2007, IEEE EPSA 2008, ICST 2008, IEEE Sensors 2008, ICST 2010, IEEE Sensors 2010, ICST 2011, ICST 2012, ICST 2013, ICST 2014, ICST 2015 and ICST 2016. He organized the IEEE Sensors conference 2009 at Christchurch, New Zealand during October 25 to 28, 2009 as General Chair, and the 11th ICST in Sydney, Australia during December 4-6, 2017. Biography

Bruno Andò is currently Associate Professor in Measurement Science at the Department of Electric, Electronic and Information Engineering (DIEEI) of the University of Catania, Italy.

He received the M.S. in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Catania, Italy, in 1994 and 1999 respectively. From 1999 he performs research in the fields of sensor and instrumentation at the DIEEI of the University of Catania.

RESEARCH ACTIVITY

Bruno Andò leads a group of researchers working in the following fields:

Smart Sensing Systems and Readout Electronics;
Assistive Technologies;
Nano and Micro Sensors, µ-fluidics, Bio-Sensors;
Inkjet Printed Sensors and Flexible Sensors;
Sensors exploiting innovative materials (ferrofluids, ferroelectrics and multiferroics);
Sensor Networks;
Smart signal processing and nonlinear techniques (including stochastic resonance and dithering) to improve performances of sensors and bio-receptors.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN SCIENTIFIC SOCIETIES

Since 1997 he is member of IEEE, and since 2013 he is a Senior Member of IEEE.
He is the Chair Elected of the IEEE SAS Advisory Board, 2017-2019.
He belongs to the following Technical Committee of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society: TC-18 “Environmental Measurements”, TC-37 “Measurement and Networking” and TC-13 “Wireless & Telecommunications in Measurements”.
He is a member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurements Faculty Course Development Award Committee for years 2016, 2017.
Since 2010 he is a member of the AitAAL (Italian Association on Ambient Assisted Living) and since 2004 he is a member of the Italian Group of Electric and Electronic Measurement “GMEE”, Italy.
Since 2015 he is the Chairman of the National Research Activity on “Sensors and Transducers for Measurement” of the Italian Measurement Group (GMEE).
He is delegated of the “Sicily (Italy) District on Micro&Nano Systems”, to the Italian Cluster on “Technology for Life Environments (TAV)”, as an expert in the field of "Technology for Assisted Living".
He belongs to the List of supporters of AALOA (AAL OPEN ASSOCIATION-www.aaloa.org/).
In 2011, 2013 he was with the Technical Program Committee of “EvAAL (Evaluating AAL Systems through Competitive Benchmarking)” competition organized by AALOpenAssociation on “Indoor Localization”, Valencia.
