Biography

Aimé Lay-Ekuakille (SM'12), received his first M.D. degree in Electronic Engineering (control technology and automation) from the University of Bari, Bari, Italy, in 1988, the second M.D. degree in Clinical Engineering from the University of L’Aquila, L’Aquila, Italy, in 2002, an M.D. (h.c.) in Environmental Management and Sanitation from IFAD Institute, Kinshasa, DRC in 2020, and a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Bari, in 2001. From 1989 up to 2000, he was serving as Technical Top Manager for private and public institutions in the following main areas: construction and maintenance of industrial plants, Environment, Biomedicine, Nuclear for civil and health applications, Robotics, and Instrumentation. He is with the Dept of Innovation Engineering, University of Salento, Italy, since 2000, and is the Director of Instrumentation and Measurement Lab I. Prof. Aimé Lay-Ekuakille is a Senior Member of IEEE. His main areas of research are (i) Instrumentation and Measurements for Biomedical, Environmental and Industrial applications, (ii) Sensors and Sensing Systems, (iii) Nanotechnology, (iv) Artificial intelligence for Instrumentation and Measurement, and (v) Ageing and Characterization of Photovoltaic Panels. He authored and co-authored more than 340 papers on indexed international conferences and journals, as well as 5 international books. He serves as, Senior Editor of Measurement: Food (Elsevier, NL), Editor of Measurement Journal (Elsevier, NL), Editor of Measurement: Sensors (Elsevier, NL), Associate Editor of IEEE Sensors Journal (USA), Editor of IEEE Transactions on Nanobioscience, Associate Editor of International Journal on Smart Sensing and Intelligent Systems (USA), Associate Editor of Mathematical Problems in Engineering published by Hindawi (UK), and Editor of Sensors (Mdpi, CH), Board member of American Journal of Biomedical Engineering published by SAP (USA), and Medical Robotics (HK, China). Prof. Aimé Lay-Ekuakille is the Chairman of Imeko TC19 on Environmental Measurements, Chairman of IEEE IM Society TC34 on Instrumentation and Measurement in Nanotechnology, IEEE IMS Representative within IEEE Nanotechnology Council, and Chairman of the Nanosensors TC within the Italian chapter of IEEE Sensors Council. He is also an active member of the Italian Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Machines (I-RIM), being the co-Chair of the WG on Assistive, Rehabilitation & Physical Medicine Robotics. He has been included in the 2020 Top 2% of the best world scientists by the University of Stanford (USA):

He mentors different Ph.D. students in Italy and international universities. He continues to serve as a scientific consultant for national and international institutions.

Biography

Grzegorz Krolczyk is a Professor and Vice-Rector for Science and Development at Opole University of Technology. Author & co-author of 317 scientific publications (221 JCR papers), as well as nearly 30 studies and industrial applications. His H-Index is 47 (Scopus). Most of papers and industrials applications based on surface metrology and novel technology ideas in Industry. His main directions of scientific activity are analysis and improvement of manufacturing processes, surface metrology and surface engineering. His research focuses on sustainable manufacturing as a tool for the practical implementation of the concept of social responsibility in the area of machining. A member of several scientific organizations, including Member of the Machine Building Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In addition, he is a member of several editorial committees of scientific journals including Measurement and Measurement: Sensors. He participated in advisory and opinion forming bodies, including Advisory team of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. Co-author of four patent applications connected with Industry 4.0, awarded many times for scientific activities in Poland and in the world. Advisor to the CEO of the Polish Central Office of Measures and the Minister for Higher Education on matters related to the direction of metrology development in Poland. He gained practical experience in a manufacturing company that forms an integral part of a European holding, being responsible for the production of structural materials and plastic injection in the machining workshop. In 2011, he started work in an enterprise being a joint-stock company as a head of the production in a joint-stock company operating in the production of pressure equipment. While working in industry, He was responsible for contacts with other companies in technical matters, such as pricing or implementation of new products. In previous work he held the positions of Design and Technology Department Manager, Product Engineer, Production Manager and Production Director. Such a wide range of professional experience allowed he to implement production standards for such produce as peristaltic pumps, pump sprayers applied in spraying plant protection products and many pressure equipment working, among others, in chemical plants. As the Production Manager, he was responsible for implementing the innovative sprayer design suited for herbicides using the ULV method designed for application in the production and commissioning of the assembly line.

The ability to combine science and industry resulted in the development of many implementations and technology transfers for manufacturing enterprises. He also has gained experience in managing teams of various sizes (from a few to over a hundred people). During his work in the industry, he gained funds for an innovative solution, a diaphragm pump, by submitting a grant within the framework of action 1.4.4.1. “Innovative, energy-saving new generation flow diaphragm device”, where he led a team responsible for the design of a pump with the characteristics including 20% better efficiency and 5 dB lower noise level compared to the ones available on the market. The budget of the project was almost 5 million PLN. In addition, he acted as the author and manager of a research project with a budget of almost 2 million PLN, which resulted in the development of one of the most up-to-date metrology laboratories in Poland, named Surface Integrity Laboratory at the Opole University of Technology. Throughout the research carried out at the laboratory, he initiated the development of an international scientific network, which included 14 scientists from Poland, Croatia, Slovakia, France and India. The outcomes of the joint research took the form of publications that were disseminated all over the world. Organizer of many world conferences in Poland and abroad including Nanotechnology for Instrumentation and Measurement.

Dr. Shabana Urooj Associate Professor-Electrical Engineering College of Engineering Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University

Prof. SHABANA UROOJ (Senior Member, IEEE) did her bachelor and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India. She is a Ph.D. from Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University) Delhi, India. She has served industry for three years and academia for more than 20 years. She has authored and co-authored more than 170 high quality research articles in journals and conferences. She has guided seven doctorates and more than sixty-five master’s theses. Dr. Shabana successfully completed several editorial responsibilities for reputed journals and several quality books and proceedings. She has proven her caliber in Power and Energy research by her published research and editorial work. Dr. Shabana received the title of IEEE STEM Ambassador in 2021 and IEEE STEM Champion in 2022 due to her outstanding contribution in pre-university volunteering to foster technical education and community service. She is a recipient of national and international awards including IEEE’s Region 10 Award for outstanding contribution in educational activities, IEEE Region 8 Outstanding Branch Counselor & Branch Chapter Advisor Award and Research Excellence Award for publishing quality book from Princess Nourah University in 2020.
